Simple ODE Models of Tumor Growth and Anti- Angiogenic or Radiation Treatment

چکیده

Models of tumor growth and treatment based on one or two ordinary differential equations are heavily used in practice because they are simple but can often still capture the essence of complicated interactions. Currently relevant examples of such models are given here: some classic growth equations, an ODE pair for the interplay between tumor and neovascularization during cancer growth or therapy, and an ODE pair for response to ionizing radiation. Mathematically more sophisticated generalizations of various kinds, usually more realistic but less practical, are mentioned very briefly. @ 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved. Treatment of Murine Tumor Models of Breast Adenocarcinoma by Continuous Dual-Frequency Ultrasound

Introduction: Acoustic transient cavitation is the primary mechanism of sonochemical reaction and has potential use for tumor treatment. In this study, the in vivo anti-tumor effect of simultaneous dual-frequency ultrasound at low-level intensity (ISATA < 6 W/cm2) was investigated in a spontaneous murine model of breast adenocarcinoma in Balb/c mice. Materials and Methods: Forty tumor bearing m...

Enhancement of radiation response with bevacizumab

BACKGROUND Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) plays a critical role in tumor angiogenesis. Bevacizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that neutralizes VEGF. We examined the impact on radiation response by blocking VEGF signaling with bevacizumab. METHODS Human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) growth inhibition and apoptosis were examined by crystal violet assay and flow cyto...

Anti-Angiogenic and Anti-Proliferative Effects of Physalis Alkekengi Hydroalcholic Extract on Breast Cancer in Mice

Background & Objective: The Physalis alkekengi is a herbaceous plant belonging to Solanaceae family. According to research, this plant can help inhibit cancer cell growth. Materials & Methods: In this study, the extract of Physalis alkekengi was used to suppress angiogenesis in Balb/c mice. First, the MC4L2 cells were injected in the mice breastbone and the tumor began to grow in this area, th...

Effect of Propranolol on Angiogenic Factors in Human Hematopoietic Cell Lines in vitro

Background: Beta-adrenergic blocking agents have been broadly used for treatment of many cardiovascular diseases such as arterial hypertension and ischemic heart failure. Anti-tumoral, anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenesis effects of propranolol (a non-selective beta-adrenergic blocker) have been shown. Angiogenesis (replenish of the pre-existing vascular networks) plays a critical role in s...

In pursuit of new anti-angiogenic therapies for cancer treatment.

Despite advances in surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, patients with cancer have a poor prognosis. Sustained aberrant tumor angiogenesis and metastasis is a major obstacle for effective cancer treatment. Just a few years ago, few would argue that one of the key success stories of the modern cancer medicine were the anti-angiogenic drugs targeting the vascular endothelial growth facto...
